NNRG Attendance System: From My Classroom to Department-Wide CSE Rollout
How a Flutter and automated backend attendance system built for my own classroom scaled across the entire Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) department at NNRG College.
The Classroom Origin
Attendance taking in our classroom used to consume 5+ minutes every period. If a student was mistakenly marked absent, the error persisted for the whole day without a quick verification loop. I saw an opportunity to automate this process using Flutter and real-time database syncing.
The Two-Phase Deployment Journey
Automated Multi-Stakeholder Email Engine
One of the most praised features by department heads was the smart email notification pipeline. Within 5-10 seconds of submission, tailored emails are dispatched:
- HOD Summary: Comprehensive daily overview of all CSE sections and total attendance percentages.
- Faculty Timetable Filter: Only teachers scheduled for today's classes receive subject-wise attendance logs.
- Absentee 1-Click Reason: Absent students receive a direct email with a "Submit Reason" button for instant feedback.
- Parent Coordinator Alerts: Triggers pre-filled WhatsApp/call templates in English, Hindi, and Telugu.
